“Never seen a center-back like him”- Villareal boss Unai Emery isn’t phased by Manchester United’s pursuit of Pau Torres

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are set to compete for Villarreal’s prized centre-half Pau Torres this summer. A number of top European clubs are interested in the Spanish defender, who could be lured to the Premier League in the coming weeks.
Both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are looking for defensive reinforcements for the 2022/23 season and appear to have identified Torres, who made 33 appearances and was instrumental in Villarreal’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last year, as a possible target.
Amidst the speculation, Unai Emery, manager of Villarreal, has explained why Manchester United is interested in his centre-back Pau Torres this summer. Last season, the Spanish defender was one of Emery’s most trusted players, appearing in 47 games for the La Liga club and scoring six goals.
United are looking for central defenders this summer, and MEN Sport reported this week that Torres is on their radar, though Ajax’s Jurrien Timber is their top target. The news of United’s interest in Torres will not surprise the former Arsenal manager, who explained how good the Spaniard is in 2021 when United was last linked with him.
Unai Emery believes Pau Torres is the best in the world amidst Manchester United rumours

Emery stated, “Pau Torres is an incredible player, and I believe he is the best in the world. I’ve coached in Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal, and I’ve never seen a centre-back like Pau Torres. I believe he will play at the highest level; he is currently playing for the national team, but he will be playing for the top teams in Europe very soon.”
This glowing praise will undoubtedly pique the interest of Reds fans as they look to rebuild their squad. United’s central defence has been a constant source of concern, with the back line under constant scrutiny. Erik ten Hag will be hoping to sign a defender before the start of the new season, with Eric Bailly and Phil Jones expected to leave.
Torres has only two years left on his contract in Spain, so this could be one of the last times the Yellow Submarine can command a high fee for their defender.
