Newcastle United makes contact with Everton for £35 million rated youngster Anthony Gordon

Newcastle United have made a move for Everton winger Anthony Gordon. According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle has approached Everton about a fee for the England U21 international.
However, they anticipate strong resistance from the Merseyside club. Everton turned down a bid from Tottenham last week for Gordon, claiming he was not for sale. Newcastle, on the other hand, is interested, knowing that Everton needs to sell to relieve financial fair play pressure.
Earlier reports suggested that the Magpies ‘admired’ the 21-year-old, but it later emerged that Eddie Howe’s side had made contact with Everton. A fee of £35 million was mentioned, making him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.
Gordon will not be sold by Everton this summer. They claim he is an important part of Frank Lampard’s plans and that the Toffees manager is vehemently opposed to selling him.
According to the Athletic, Everton wants to give Gordon a new contract, but this has been planned for a while rather than in response to Newcastle’s interest. Lampard’s desire to keep the youngster is understandable. He was one of their best players last season, and he didn’t have much competition.
Gordon was a standout for Everton, who were on the verge of relegation. Newcastle might have had a better chance of signing the wide midfielder if they had dropped into the Championship, but the toffees remained in the Premier League.

Having spent over half a billion pounds on mostly bad signings in five seasons beginning in 2016/17. With those dual FFP and general financial pressures, Everton kept transfer business/spending to a minimum last season, making a profit of around £6 million and the only significant transfer business was replacing Digne with Mykolenko.
The Everton owners have recently gone public with their hopes of selling the club now, hoping that their valuation of more than £500 million for the struggling club will still attract a buyer. Any new owners would then be required to fund the necessary new £500 million stadium to replace their current decrepit stadium.
