“Nobody will care,” PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi assures fans the Super League ‘won’t happen’

The launch of the European Super League in 2021 quickly met with criticism from fans of English clubs and from within Whitehall. Despite this, Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid have remained committed to the cause, believing that the European Court of Justice (ECJ) will eventually rule that UEFA has an unfair advantage in running club competitions. They remain hopeful that their defiance will be rewarded.

In a particular discussion with Sky News, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, chairman of the European Club Association, said that supporters will never allow it to take place and that the absurd plan will not be successful. The head of European football clubs has declared that any attempt to revive the Super League will be thwarted as a court prepares to judge the legitimacy of the split-off.

In the interview Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “Super League? Won’t happen. No one will join them. No one will go to the stadium. No one will organize anything. Nobody will care, Who will play – three clubs? Fantastic.” The European Court of Justice’s Advocate General is expected to issue a non-binding opinion on the matter next week from Luxembourg. As a result, the executive board of the European Club Association (ECA) headed by Mr Al-Khelaifi of Paris Saint-Germain is holding a meeting this week in Qatar in conjunction with the World Cup.

According to incoming CEO Bernd Reichart, the European Super League may be established by the 2024–25 season

European Super League

A22 Sports Management has appointed Bernd Reichart to start discussions with European football stakeholders about the 12-team breakaway league, which was set up last April. While negotiations can still progress without the involvement of the big six teams from England, Reichart is optimistic that they will join the conversation.

In April 2021, twelve football teams – Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid – joined forces to form the European Super League. Despite the initial support of the founding members, the plan quickly unraveled due to immense backlash from fans, analysts, other teams, and the press. Nevertheless, Juventus, Barcelona, and Real Madrid still stand by the idea of the competition.

Reichart is not opposed to discussing with UEFA even as the European Court of Justice hearing approaches. On December 15th, A22 Sports Management will be issuing proposals in the case against UEFA and FIFA, which states that these organizations have taken advantage of their superiority in the market and have prevented the formation of the league, and have given out punishments to the teams that were part of it.
