Reports from Spain suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo will be signing a contract with Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr on January 1st. The celebrated athlete recently left Manchester United in the lead up to the World Cup and appears to have now settled on his next club. The agreement is believed to be one of the most profitable agreements in the sports world, and could potentially result in the five-time Ballon d’Or winner earning close to €200million (£173m) each year.
MARCA reports that former Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to ink a contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in the beginning of June. The deal is supposedly worth approximately €100m (£86m) and comes with associated advertisement and sponsorship arrangements.
At the end of last month, the 37-year-old’s contract with the club expired, and his already strained relationship with the team’s executives grew even more tense due to some incendiary remarks he made during a televised interview with Piers Morgan. In the remarkable interview, Ronaldo confessed that reports of a €350m offer to stay with the club for two seasons were accurate – despite his earlier rejection of it.
Cristiano Ronaldo is mocked by the crowd as he signs a £173M contract with Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia
Football fans have been making fun of Cristiano Ronaldo on social media after news broke that he had signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia worth an incredible £173million a year. Ronaldo’s time at Manchester United had come to an end after he made some negative comments about the club during a television interview with Piers Morgan. People couldn’t help but comment on the huge amount of money Ronaldo had managed to secure for himself.
Last summer, Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo rejected a transfer to Saudi Arabia, but with no major clubs in Europe showing interest, it appears he will now go ahead with the move. Al-Nassr is one of the most successful teams in the Middle Eastern nation, having won the national championship nine times, with their most recent victory occurring in 2019.
One fan tweeted: ”Cristiano Ronaldo “Top Clubs want me, I’m still going to stay at the highest levels” About to sign for €200 million a season in Saudi Arabia. Like what! It’s like Messi going to America!! Ffs.” and another added: ”So much for Ronaldo wanting champions league football a contradiction.’ While, one wrote: ‘Money aside, Ronaldo is only going to #Saudi to score some easy goals so that his goal tally is falsely inflated so that he can beat Messi.”
