Santos FC just finished the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 17th place, meaning they’re dropping to the second division. This is the first time in their 111-year history. Adding to the disappointment, Palmeiras, their rivals, secured the title for the second consecutive time.
Notably, legends like Pelé and Neymar Jr. have worn the Santos jersey. Pelé played a crucial role in making Santos a ‘great’ club. Neymar, rising to fame with the club, later departed to FC Barcelona for a record €88 million.
In sharp contrast to Santos’ misery, Palmeiras lifted the title as they drew 1-1 against Cruzeiro. A sensational season with ‘breakout’ star Endrick enabled the Verdão to accumulate a title-winning 70 points.
However, the league title was contested till the final matchday, as Luis Suarez’s Gremio were just behind, with 68 points. A draw against Cruzeiro on the final matchday was enough to clinch the title for Palmeiras.
“Too easy for him” – Endrick takes center stage yet again as Palmeiras lift Brasileiro Série A
Palmeiras and Endrick lifted the Serie A title on Wednesday as the internet was witness to the birth and growth of a prospective ‘star’. The Verdão needed one point on the final matchday to secure the silverware, and as it has been throughout this season, it was Endrick who came through with the all-important goal. Following the game, Endrick was also seen reveling in the festivities.
Fans have been all for quick movements, flashy skills, and quirky celebrations. His final game of the season did not disappoint either, as the youngster scored against Cruzeiro to win the title. His celebration immediately went viral, as he hit the ‘giddy’ with his teammates. Some reacted to the same, saying that he will ‘rattle’ so many away fans and that they are here for it. Others were surprised as to how a 17-year-old can hold such composure and confidence in important games.
Another fan posted a video of his celebrations during the title ceremony. He was seen sporting quirky sunglasses as he walked around the pitch with his medal. He was also carrying around a camera, which gave him the label ‘cameraman Endrick’. Videos of the player teaching his teammates new dance moves during the award ceremony have also been picked up by fans. Real Madrid fans ‘cannot wait’ for him to link up with Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo, said another fan.
