Pep Guardiola details areas where Erling Haaland still lags behind Lionel Messi despite breaking decades old Premier League record
Pep Guardiola reportedly talked about similarities between Messi and Haaland.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly responded after being asked about Erling Haaland’s similarities to Lionel Messi. Guardiola said that Haaland might share the same kind of mentality for goals like Messi. But for him the Argentine forward is still the most complete player he has ever seen.
During the latest interview, Pep Guardiola was asked about the similarities between Messi and Haaland. Guardiola reportedly said that such a comparison won’t do any good for Haaland. He said, “In terms of goals and mentality, yeah. But Messi has done it every season in the last 10 to 15 years. But Erling, since he started at Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, has got to the same level in terms of goals. It’s almost every game that he scores a goal. One or two every game, he has the chance to do it”.
Guardiola then concluded the topic, as he said, “Messi is the most complete player I have seen in terms of vision, dribbles, passes, competitiveness, in many things that are difficult. Hopefully, Erling can be close to being like Leo – that will be great for us and him.”
It has been an unforgettable season for Erling Haaland. He equalled the most goals scored in Premier League history when he bagged his 50th goal of the season for Manchester City in their 2-1 win at Fulham. So far, Haaland has scored 34 in the Premier League, 12 in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and one in the Carabao Cup. And there is still a handful of games to come.

Manchester City ready to part ways with their ‘special’ midfielder this summer: Reports
According to the reports, Manchester City are willing to cash in on their midfielder Bernado Silva in the summer transfer window. Silva is attracting interest from abroad as FC Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain are both reportedly interested to acquire his services.
Man City will not stand in the way of the Portuguese midfielder if he wishes to go on a new adventure. Although they would require £75 million in transfer fees for him.
Man City reportedly paid AS Monaco £43 million for Silva back in the summer of 2017. Silva wanted to leave for Barcelona last summer. But the club did not sell him. Barcelona came for Silva again in the January transfer window. But City stopped the Portuguese star from leaving.
