In an interview ahead of the Champions League opener, Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola had a hilarious moment. He was asked about contenders for the Premier League and his team’s chances to retain the League title this season. Following the question, Pep listed out the obvious contenders in Arsenal, Tottenham (with the current run of form), and Liverpool. He left out rivals Manchester United.

When asked about his omission, Guardiola let out a small laugh. Making it known that it is obvious why did not pick the Manchester rivals, in light of their recent performances and horrendous start to their new season. He said that the Red Devils did not start the season as they wished. The Spaniard compared their start to Chelsea’s saying they both are struggling.

Pep Guardiola also mentioned that clubs like Chelsea and Manchester Unit manage to find their “rhythm” sooner or later in the season. After 5 Premier League games, both Chelsea and Manchester United find themselves in the bottom half of the table, with Chelsea 14th and United in 13th.

After Saturday’s comeback win against West Ham, the Cityzens will be looking forward to a statement win in their opening match against Crvena zvezda. As for the team news, Pep is likely to start Ederson in goal, with Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake as the defensive partnership. He may also start Akanji alongside Dias as was the case against West Ham United. Josko Gvardiol is likely to feature on the left, and Kyle Walker has cemented the right-wing back position for the Cityzens.

Rodri will continue as the central pivot, as he looks to get back to business in the UCL. New signing, Matheus Nunes is likely to star in midfield, and Alvarez has become ‘undroppable’ with all the untimely injuries. Foden is the frontrunner to start on the left, with the latest signing Jérémy Doku on the far right. Erling Haaland will spearhead the City attack and will look to replicate performances from last season.

Pep Guardiola will be without John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne, and even Jack Grealish. All these players have been indispensable in last season’s treble charge.
