Manchester City were at their very best against Aston Villa at the Etihad on Wednesday night. The reigning champions were ‘unstoppable’ against Villa as the Cityzens, courtesy of Phil Foden, put four past Robin Olsen and his defense. While Pep Guardiola‘s men are considered to be the ‘best’ in the League by many, one of the many reasons people do so is thanks to the genuis of Phil Foden.

The City No. 47 has had a season nothing short of brilliant, having scored 21 goals in all competitions while netting a hat-trick in his most recent game. Foden’s first came with a scintillating free-kick from range, when he curled his shot exquisitely through the Aston Villa wall and into the net. His second was a sublime first-touch finish, when he drove his shot low and hard into the bottom right corner from a Rodri pass.

His third and final goal was a work of beauty. The 23-year-old quickly won back possession in front of the Aston Villa box before unleashing a belter of a shot to the top right corner. 4-1 read the final score as Foden bagged just his third career hat-trick.

Following the win, Man City are third and tied at 67 points with Liverpool. The Reds however, have a game in hand.

Fans quickly took to X to let people know that Foden had well and truly surpassed Bukayo Saka. One supporter even claimed that Foden was the best of the bunch, comparing him to the likes of Vinicius Jr. and Cole Palmer.

Some called him a once-in-a-lifetime player while others named him ‘King’ of the Etihad. Some mocked Saka for ‘faking’ an injury and missing games while Foden was out bagging hat-tricks. Many were in disbelief that out of a League featuring Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah, Foden was the first to score multiple hat-tricks this season.

While some feel that Foden will somehow remain underrated no matter how well he performs, others are happy that he is finally ‘getting his flowers’ as a player. A fan took the opportunity to remind others how no Chelsea or Man United player has scored a hat-trick this season.

As Phil Foden starts to pick-up some much needed form, he will be crucial to City in the final stretch of the season. They take on Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in their upcoming games.
