Phil Foden wins Premier League Young Player of the year for the second consecutive season
Phil Foden with the Young Player of the Season award
Phil Foden of Manchester City has been selected Premier League Young Player of the Season for the season 2021-22. For the second season in a row, the 21-year-old wins the award, receiving more votes than Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bukayo Saka, Mason Mount, and Declan Rice, who were all nominated.
Foden has made 27 Premier League appearances for City this campaign as Pep Guardiola’s team looks to retain the championship on the last day of the season. The dynamic attacker, who came through the club’s youth, has played as an attacking midfielder and scored nine goals as part of the Citizens’ frontline.

Foden beat out Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Gallagher (Crystal Palace on loan from Chelsea), Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), Declan Rice (West Ham), and Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) to win the award for the player aged under 23 at the start of the season.
Alexander-Arnold won the award for the first time in 2020, followed by Foden’s victories a year after and this season. The winner was determined by a mix of public votes and votes from a board of football pundits.
This is what Foden had to say: “I am very proud to have won this award for the second season in a row,” “There are so many talented young players in the Premier League this season and it is a real honor to win it again.”
He said he has been really happy with his performances this season and it has been great to contribute to the team in what will hopefully be another successful year for Manchester City. He continued that it is an honor for him to be nominated alongside so many great players as they have all had great seasons for their clubs.
He concluded – “I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to my development this season.”
Foden will be eyeing to win the Premier League again this weekend as Man City goes head to head against Aston Villa.
