Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has faced criticism from domestic media for his poor on-field performance. The Portuguese press has urged that Ronaldo be removed from the team’s starting XI due to his poor performance in the current season.
Cristiano Ronaldo was criticized before the game even started, and his performance against Spain won’t have helped his defense’s case for keeping the team. As Ronaldo approaches his 38th birthday and has won the Ballon d’Or five times, this might easily be referred to as his worst stretch of play throughout his career.
Cristiano Ronaldo has only started three games this season for Manchester United, and only one of those games has ended in a victory, leading to his dismissal by new manager Erik ten Hag. After a summer in which he sought to leave Old Trafford, it seemed unlikely that he will force his way back into the starting lineup of a squad that currently appears better off without him.
Even though he recently stated that he also wants to play at Euro 2024, his position in the Portugal team for the World Cup is now in doubt. Portuguese outlet A Bola used the headline “Less Ronaldo, More Portugal” ahead of the Nations League group-stage match against Spain.

The former Real Madrid player failed to score and gave away a penalty in the last match against Czech Republic, according to their argument, hence he should have been benched. Not only was his performance criticised, but the Portugal captain was also seen dumping the armband after the game. In the third iteration of the competition, the first-place Nations League winners just required a draw to advance. Despite Ronaldo’s dismal performance, they appeared to be headed for a draw until Alvaro Morata’s late strike for the guests broke the tie. Instead, Spain won the group and advanced alongside Italy to the semifinals.
