Liverpool earned a crucial two-point-lead at the top of the Premier League thanks to a comprehensive victory against Brentford. Goals from Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Alexis Mac Allister sealed the deal for the visitors. Adding to the victory was the fact that Liverpool clinched a unique record in the process, becoming the only team in the Premier League to field players from 11 different nationalities in the starting line-up.

As the Premier League nears its business end, Liverpool have established a narrow yet significant lead at the top. Mohamed Salah’s returning from injury, and Liverpool scoring 4 goals did not distract fans from the fact that the visitors fielded the most diverse line-up in the Premier League. Every player in the starting line-up represented a different nationality, starting with Mohamed Salah from Egypt.

Goal scorer Alexis Mac Allister is a World Cup winner with Argentina while Darwin Nunez, who grabbed Liverpool’s opener, plays for Uruguay. Luis Diaz represents Colombia at the International level. Curtis Jones was the only English player in the line-up, while Andy Robertson and Conor Bradley hails from Scotland and Northern Ireland respectively.

Ibrahima Konate joined Captain Virgil van Dijk in defense. The two represented the Netherlands and France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. New signing Wataru Endo is the only Japanese player in the squad. Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher from Ireland completed the list as Liverpool attained the unique record.

Liverpool maintain top spot with thrilling victory against Brentford

The Reds looked like a team on a mission as they dismantled a wary Brentford side in their stadium. Jurgen Klopp‘s men will look to give the gaffer a fitting farewell as they go all in to secure the 2023/24 Premier League. A resounding 4-1 victory against Brentford ensured that Arsenal did not go ahead on Saturday.

Darwin Nunez opened the scoring for the visitors in the 35th minute. The Uruguayan finished off a quick counter-attack from Liverpool and calmly chipped Mark Flekken in the process. Alexis Mac Allister finished off a pin-point assist from Salah before the Egyptian made it 3-0. Ivan Toney pulled one back for the home side before Cody Gakpo sealed the deal in the final minutes.

Defending champions Manchester City slipped up against Chelsea, putting them 4 points behind rivals Liverpool. However, with a 5-0 win against Burnley, Arsenal sent a strong message to the rest of the league and are within two points of the leaders.
