PSG President asks UEFA to look into Barcelona’s unfair financial practices: Reports

Nasser Al-Khelaifi

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain criticised Barcelona’s fund-raising strategies as unfair and said UEFA should look into the Barcelona’s financial practises.

In spite of rising debt and difficulty adhering to LaLiga’s rigorous salary caps, Barcelona completed high-profile transfers for Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, and Raphinha during the most recent transfer window, as well as signing a number of free agents.

In order to obtain money for their transfer activity, Barca sold a 25% stake in their future LaLiga media rights as well as a 49% stake in their own production firm, Barca Studios. Although Al-Khelaifi has questioned their legality, President Joan Laporta described those actions as economic “levers” that were used to strengthen the team.

“Is this fair? No, it’s not fair,” he told Politico. “Is it legal? I’m not sure.

“If they allow them, others will do the same. UEFA of course have their own financial regulations. For sure they’re going to look at everything.”

PSG’s president is not happy with Barcelona’s financial methods

Nasser Al-Khelaifi

Al-Khelaifi, the chairman of the European Club Association and a member of the UEFA executive committee, has recently criticised Barcelona on a number of times. In a speech to leaders of European clubs last week, he seemed to make a reference to the Catalan giants, saying: “The new financial sustainability requirements are a positive development.”

“But we need to be careful. Dangerous levels of debt and magical equity deals are not a sustainable path.”

As a result of Kylian Mbappe’s choice to refuse a move to Real Madrid earlier this year, LaLiga filed a protest on PSG’s spending, and Al-Khelaifi became engaged in the exchange. The president of PSG has also criticised Barca and Madrid for continuing to support the European Super League, saying;

“the ecosystem of football is bigger than just two or three clubs”, earlier this month.
