Kylian Mbappe, the French footballing icon has issued a message to the rioters in the streets of France to act as a pacifying agent. Mbappe has urged the people to seize the violence and instead enter into dialogues with the authorities. He has strongly condemned the violence and pleads for peace.

“Violence solves nothing, even less when it inevitably and tirelessly turns against those who express it, their families, loved ones and neighbors. It is your property that you are destroying, your neighborhoods, your cities, your places of fulfillment and proximity,” said Mbappe. He also added, “The time of violence must end to make way for that of mourning, dialogue and reconstruction.”

After a youngster named Nahel Merzouk, who was purported of Algerian heritage, was fatally shot by police in an event that was captured on film, some areas inside some of France’s main towns have erupted in violence for many consecutive nights. On the evening of June 27, in the Parisian district of Nanterre, where Merzouk was shot, clashes between police and protestors started.

RC Strasbourg Alsace have announced Patrick Vieira as their head coach. According to reports from France, this comes after reaching an agreement in principle with the Alsatians. This is Vieira’s most recent position after his firing from Crystal Palace.

Vieira, the former manager of New York City FC, OGC Nice, Crystal Palace FC, and RC Strasbourg are expected to agree on a three-year contract. BlueCo, an American group that also owns Chelsea FC, now owns Strasbourg. Frédéric Antonetti, the former manager of the club left the club by mutual consent.

Vieira has assurances from the board that Strasbourg wouldn’t be struggling to maintain their Ligue 1 status like they did the previous year, but rather would be aiming for a spot in the top half. The former Arsenal midfielder will be in charge of launching Strasbourg’s new BlueCo era. On August 12th, Lyon will visit Strasbourg for Vieira’s first competitive match as manager of the club.
