Raheem Sterling all set to re-join the England team before the quarterfinal match against France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Raheem Sterling
England forward Raheem Sterling will be back in Qatar on Friday for the World Cup after taking a break in England due to a burglary at his residence, the Football Association of England reported on Thursday. Sterling was absent from England’s team for the 3-0 victory against Senegal, with Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka taking up the positions on either side of Harry Kane.
It would be unexpected if Sterling were chosen to begin the match against France, although his inclusion does broaden Gareth Southgate’s options from the sideline. According to British news outlets, Sterling’s house was invaded by armed criminals while his relatives were inside on Saturday night.
“Raheem Sterling will return to England’s World Cup base in Qatar. The Chelsea forward temporarily left to attend to a family matter but is now expected to rejoin the squad in Al Wakrah on Friday ahead of the quarter-final with France,” the FA said in a statement.
The FIFA World Cup’s Quarterfinal stage will include a pivotal game between England and France
England and France are preparing to face off in a crucial World Cup quarter-final match this Saturday night . Gareth Southgate’s England has been victorious in all but one of their four games, with a draw against the United States in the second Group B game as the only blemish. France, on the other hand, have won every game except for their last Group D game against Tunisia, when they put out a much changed squad and lost 1-0.
Walker will have to bring his best game to the table when he takes on Kylian Mbappe in their upcoming match, as the World Cup’s top scorer has already clocked speeds of over 22.3mph. This is a much faster pace than the one he’s already faced from the likes of Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr and Wales’ Dan James, against whom he registered a top speed of 21.3mph according to GPS performance tracking data from the England team. He will need to step up his game if he wants to stop Mbappe from running away with the match.
Bellingham has been an exceptional performer for the English squad at the tournament, notching a goal against Iran in the 6-2 victory and setting up Henderson in the round of 16 triumph over Senegal. Likewise, Rabiot has earned himself a strong reputation, netting a goal and an assist in France’s 4-1 victory over Australia in the initial group match. This could be a pivotal matchup that swings the result in England’s favour.
