In an unfortunate incident this Monday, Ghanaian forward, Raphael Dwamena collapsed and later died, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest in an Albanian League match. Dwamena’s uncle went on to make serious accusations against the player’s wife, for not providing the family with information about the funeral or the last rites.

Raphael Dwamena collapsed on the pitch after he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, and passed away while he was being transported to the hospital, during a match between his side Egnatia against Partizani in the Albanian League. Dwamena has had a history of heart problems, after he collapsed similarly in an Austrian Bundesliga match, back in 2021, but still played on.

In a recent Peace FM interview, Raphael Dwamena’s father, Patrick Amoako Sefa, mentioned that efforts are being made by the player’s wife and the Ghana Football Association to bring his body back home for the final rites and funeral. However, conflicting reports arise as Dwamena’s uncle, mother, and sister contradict this, stating that the wife has been unresponsive, and they rely solely on information from the player’s agent. Serious allegations have been made against Dwamena’s wife, with the family expressing frustration over unanswered attempts to contact her.

Dwamena’s uncle, who says he found out that Dwamena was in Albania with his wife after the incident, claims that the late striker’s agent has been their connection. This unnamed agent has been sharing information about what’s going on since the player passed away.

We only found out that his wife was staying with him after his death. This is because whenever we try to establish contact with her over the incident, she tells us she's busy. When it happened the sister claims she tried getting in touch with the wife but all her five attempts were unsuccessful. She even switched the phone off on her. We were lucky to have heard from his manager who is now our point of contact there.

Raphael played in Albania’s top division for Egnatia after clubs in Switzerland, Austria, and Spain. His sister couldn’t reach his wife, suggesting a family rift over his death.

Ghanaian forward, Raphael Dwamena died aged 28, after he collapsed on the pitch due to a cardiac arrest, during a league match in Albania. He passed away while he was being transported off to the hospital in an ambulance.

Dwamena began his career by playing for Austrian outfit RB Salzburg at the youth level and went on to play for Levante, Real Zaragoza, and FC Zurich. He was one of the leading performers in the Albanian League this season with 9 goals for his club Egnatia. He collapsed while playing a league game between Egnatia and Partizani.

Sadly, despite quick medical help, he passed away. The match got canceled, and all games for the week were postponed by the Albanian Football Federation. The Albanian and Ghanaian associations are working to bring his body back for the final rites. He had battled heart issues, even undergoing recent surgery. The Ghanaian Football Association and others expressed heartfelt condolences to his family and shared in the sorrow of his loss.
