Zinedine Zidane was spotted at the Santiago Bernabeu during Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea. Fans have been speculating a possible return after reports suggesting that current manager Carlo Ancelotti could depart the club.

Ancelotti is rumoured to be on his way to Chelsea, with Todd Boehly particularly keen on bringing the Italian to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea is on their third manager in Todd Boehly’s tenure. The American billionaire reinstated Frank Lampard on Thursday after dismissing Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel at the start of the season.

Meanwhile, Zidane is reportedly holding out for an offer from Real Madrid amid interest from French giants Paris Saint-Germain. Zidane is unlikely to commit to PSG until he understands his position with Real Madrid. The Frenchman is expected to prioritise a third stint at Los Blancos. The role could become vacant this summer with Carlo Ancelotti’s future uncertain following a disappointing domestic campaign.

Former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson recently urged Chelsea to bring Zidane to Stamford Bridge. “Even though I don’t know whether this could be a reality, I’d like to see Zinedine Zidane come in. I believe the players need a manager that’s going to walk in and grab their attention. Chelsea’s dressing room is full of big players, and the club needs a manager that’s going to demand respect from them from day one. A top ex-footballer will do that,” he said. Zidane took charge of Real Madrid over 250 times across two stings, managing a 65% win rate.

Real Madrid travels to Stamford Bridge in the second leg against Chelsea on April 19. Los Blancos will be hoping to advance to the semi-finals, where they will face either Bayern Munich or Manchester City. Chelsea is looking to taste some semblance of success after a terrible season where they have collected 39 points from 30 matches in the Premier League and sacked two managers, despite spending over €300 million in the transfer market.
