Lionel Messi won The Best FIFA Football Award for the best player in 2022. Real Madrid fans, who expected their star striker Karim Benzema to win were furious with Madrid’s David Alaba after he voted for Lionel Messi ahead of Karim Benzema for the prestigious award. Shortly after the awards were announced fans started tweeting #AlabaOut after the Austrian’s betrayal of Benzema.

The selection process for the FIFA The Best Award includes voting from the captains of the international football teams. David Alaba, who is the captain of Austria’s football team, voted Lionel Messi in the first place, Karim Benzema in second, and French forward Kylian Mbappe in the third. The Austrian did not follow the traditional voting of choosing the promising teammate in the first place.
