Real Madrid is reportedly considering Julian Alvarez as a transfer target if Kylian Mbappe does not sign next summer. Manchester City purchased the Argentine for £14.1million from River Plate in the winter transfer window of 2022. The young forward has become a regular so far this season with a run of impressive form.
Kylian Mbappe has been linked with Real Madrid for a long time now. With each transfer window, the Frenchman has always ended up staying at PSG. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, after being reported to join Real Madrid several times now, signed a new contract to keep him at the club till 2025. But the saga still went on till the end of this summer transfer window. Now, Los Blancos are considering signing Argentine forward Julian Alvarez from Manchester City. The forward appeared for the club 31 times in the Premier League last season, scoring 9 goals. The player currently has started every game for City this season with 2 goals and 1 assist.
Being a relatively unknown player around Europe’s top flight, Julian Alvarez quietly became a superstar playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland. The Argentine had an incredible season in terms of trophies. Winning the treble with Manchester City as the club lifted the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and the FA Cup. Alvarez also had an incredible time with Argentina lifting the FIFA World Cup.
The player has essentially completed football at the young age of 23 and now with his whole career still left in front of him, an opportunity to call Santiago Bernabéu his home may arrive soon. Julian Alvarez‘s contract runs at Manchester City till 2028.
Where will Julian Alvarez play in Real Madrid?
With the departure of Karim Benzema, Real Madrid is currently playing without a natural number nine. While the club has attained the services of Joselu on loan, the player starts on the bench. This means that Madrid starts with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo as their two main forwards. The signing of Julian Alvarez will give Real Madrid their forward player which they desperately require.
Julian Alvarez, in his four starts this season, is deployed just behind Haaland as a ‘second striker’. This position seems to have worked for him as he has been performing well for the club. However, Erling Haaland’s influence to draw people away from him cannot be understated. Julian Alvarez has also played as a center-forward during Argentina’s World Cup run but was also moved to the wings from time to time. If Madrid signs him, he will most likely be put right in the center where Benzema used to play.
Kylian Mbappe has always remained as Real Madrid’s top target. However, after years of flirting with the club, fans are starting to get tired.
