This week, Manchester City announced the signing of Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker has been the subject of a long-running transfer drama, with all of Europe’s top clubs — most notably Real Madrid – keen to sign him.

City prevailed, activating a €60 million release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract. However, according to rumors published by Mundo Deportivo, Haaland may be planning another transfer in the summer of 2024.

That’s when a €150 million release clause kicks in, allowing for a reasonably painless move in the future. The prominence of Karim Benzema and, it appears, Kylian Mbappe, is one of the reasons Haaland selected City over Madrid.

According to a report by BILD in Germany, Haaland’s negotiators have successfully demanded that his City contract contain a buy-out provision this time.

According to the article, Haaland’s five-year deal with City may be acquired out after two years for £128 million. This will increase discussion regarding his future professional move.

This year, Haaland was connected with Real Madrid, but it is believed that Karim Benzema’s brilliance was a factor in them not completing a deal for the Norwegian.

Benzema has 26 goals and 11 assists in 30 La Liga matches this season, and 15 goals and 11 assists in 11 Champions League appearances. However, Benzema will be 36 years old in two years, in the summer of 2024, and Haaland, for £128 million, maybe the ideal successor.

Future transfers are unlikely to be at the forefront of Haaland’s thinking right now.  He can concentrate on scoring goals and winning trophies at the Etihad Stadium after playing his final game for Dortmund on Saturday.
