Reece James, captain of Chelsea FC, has been handed a £90,000 fine by the FA and banned for one game following their loss to Aston Villa. The player was charged due to ‘improper, abusive and insulting’ words and behaviour towards a match official.
The Chelsea full-back has only made a single appearance for the club this season after suffering a hamstring injury which has seen him on the sidelines since the beginning of the new season. While sitting on the sidelines, the fullback found a way to get himself suspended after the player pleaded guilty to the usage of abusive language against match officials presumably due to Malo Gusto’s incident where the player’s yellow was upgraded to a red upon further VAR review.
Reece James violated FA Rule E3 due to which, “An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions following a hearing,” the FA released in a public statement. This action means the player will miss the game on Burnley regardless of whether the player is fit or not.
Chelsea won their recent game against Fulham at Craven Cottage convincingly by a two-goal margin. The Blues will be hoping to keep their momentum as they face Arsenal in the London Derby on the 21st of October.
Reece James’ injury record
23-years-old, Reece James has the injury record of a player who has been playing for several years at the top level. Making his professional debut as early as 2018, the England International has suffered numerous injuries ranging from ankle injuries to hamstring injuries having already missed over 50 games in his short career.
Reece has not made 30+ appearances in the league since the ’20/21 season. Last season the player only made 16 appearances in the Premier League missing a majority of games due to recurring knee and hamstring injuries. “My job is to play football and I want to be able to help the team, but I can’t do that at the moment, so right now my job is to get fit as quickly and as safely as possible,” stated the fullback addressing his current injury situation. “I’m working hard right now to come back, put my injury problems to bed and help the team as much as I can,” ending his statement.
Chelsea is currently missing their captain Reece James and also their vice-captain, Ben Chilwell who is also suffering from his injuries. With the absence of the two, Conor Gallagher has stepped up to wear the armband as Pochettino has entrusted the Englishman with the task of leading the players on the field.
