Son Heung-min with Richarlison

The Tottenham Hotspurs star and Brazilian Richarlison pens down a heartfelt message to his teammate at Spurs, Son Heung-Min, whom Brazil defeated in the 4-1 victory over South Korea. The South Koreans had their historic run to the Round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup after handing over a sensational win against Portugal. The Premier League teammates have praise for each other, as the footage showed when Son was found giving a hug to Richarlison after the match ended.

The Brazilian through his Twitter account wrote a beautiful message to Son in solidarity with his hard work. “I know how hard you fought to be here and that’s why you’re a hero to your people”, said the Brazilian as he knew the chances of South Korea making it to the Round of 16 was below the line but they somehow managed to achieve that feat. Compassion is a very important part of any sport, it helps to keep the sportsmanship alive and feel for each other’s challenges.

The Brazilian knew the hardships one faces to get here; no doubt Brazil, who entered the tournament as favorites, quickly got past the South Koreans, but the appreciation the Asian team deserves is also necessary for them to get. Healthy relationships between players who belong to different countries, religions, thoughts, and cultures are needed in sports—recognizing one’s play and support when the players face a loss.

The Brazilians are chasing a first World Cup trophy since Ronaldo, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho’s bright glory in 2002. The youngsters’ first-half display at Stadium 974 was worthy of being a part of that legacy. Pele, who posted a message of support from his Twitter account saying he would watch on from his hospital bed, also would have realized something in the beautiful display of Brazil’s play from when Vinicius Jr. coolly found an opener in the 7th minute.

The win send the Asian side into the last 16 ahead of Uruguay on the number of goals scored.

After an early opener for Portugal by Ricardo Horta, Kim Young-gwon provided the Koreans with hope in the 27th minute when a corner ball struck the Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo on the back and fell directly for the defender for an easy sweep inside the net. The South Koreans now stand eliminated from the tournament, but a mystical rally is what they have served the audience with.
