Manchester United legend and football pundit Rio Ferdinand has become the latest to give a ‘surprising’ take on the Gerard, Lampard, Scholes debate. Legendary English midfielders Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Paul Scholes have puzzled fans and pundits alike as to who is the best of the bunch. The former Man United defender picked Gerrard over Manchester United legend Scholes.

While Steven Gerrard had an illustrious 17-year career with Liverpool, Paul Scholes marked an era with United under Sir Alex Ferguson. The former won multiple FA Cups and League Cups, while also lifting the Champions League once. Scholes on the other hand, has won a monstrous 11 Premier League titles, along with League Cups and FA Cups. He has also won the Champions League twice.

Ferdinand said,

I enjoyed playing with Scholesy the most. I could just give the ball to him and shout a name and he'd find them. He'd never be ruffled in any situation. I thought he was a genius. If I were the manager of a club for a season, I'd go with Lampard because he'll give 20 goals from midfield. If I want a big moment in a big game, I'd probably go with Stevie.

The United Legend’s admission that Gerrard calls for big moments has been making rounds on social media.

Steven Gerrard signs Al-Ettifaq extension amidst Jordan Henderson ‘incident’

Former Liverpool captain and club legend Steven Gerrard has put pen to paper and committed to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq till 2027. The club is currently in ‘turmoil’ after the ex-Liverpool captain announced his decision to leave after playing just 17 games in total for the club. Jordan Henderson has subsequently joined Dutch club AFC Ajax.

Following the contract extension, Steven Gerrard said,

It's a proud moment. It's the recognition of a lot of hardwork from my staff and myself. The easy decision would have been to stay at Liverpool and wait for jobs that are local and work geographically.

He explained that the decision came off the back of consideration with his family, who also agreed that meeting new people, taking up new challenges, and exploring new countries would benefit them.

As it stands, Al-Ettifaq have not been ‘very’ impressive in the league. They have managed to accumulate 25 points in 19 games, and are in 8th position. They are well behind the likes of Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr. The club employs former Liverpool man Georginio Wijnaldum and Leicester City star Demarai Gray. Gerrard took charge of the club in July 2023.
