“What a bit of intensity can do”- Roberto Firmino’s equalizer for Liverpool v Arsenal leaves social media speechless and stunned
The draw means Manchester City inch closer to the Gunners
Liverpool and Arsenal faced off in an exhilarating 2-2 draw, potentially one of the games of the season at Anfield. Roberto Firmino’s late strike saw the Reds snatch the draw and put Arsenal in an awkward position at the top of the Premier League table.
The game started off in fiery fashion as Gabriel Martinelli put the Gunners ahead after finishing off a slick team move in the eighth minute. Martinelli was yet again involved as he crossed the ball in towards an unmarked Gabriel Jesus, who doubled the lead for the visitors.
The first half also saw individuals clashing against each other as Trent Alexander Arnold and Granit Xhaka faced off after the latter put in a late challenge on the Englishman. Tensions rose in the game after Ibrahima Konate kicked Martinelli in the face while going for the ball. All the drama did not matter in the end for Mohamed Salah as the Egyptian halved Arsenal’s lead with a simple finish right before the end of the first half.
However, things did not go to plan in the second half for the Reds as Salah put his penalty just wide of the post early on. But that did not prove to be a problem as Trent Alexander Arnold’s cross found Roberto Firmino’s head which levelled the tie in the 87th minute.
It was a dominating second-half display from Liverpool which saw league leaders Arsenal reeling back to defend every time the Reds came marching forward with an attack. However, the Gunners held on to clinch a hard-fought draw. The Liverpool midfield choked Arteta’s team in the second half after Trent Alexander-Arnold switched into midfield denying the Gunners any space.

Fans react to Roberto Firmino’s equalizer for Liverpool against Arsenal
The late leveller by Liverpool meant Manchester City inch closer to Arsenal at the top of the table. With the result, Arsenal are currently six points clear of the Citizens. City, however, have a game in hand. The tie between the two on April 26 might be the title decider as City would look to capitalize on the Gunners dropping points.
Arsenal captain Martin Odeegard said, “They created a lot of chances. Aaron [Ramsdale] was very good back there and saved us. Frustrated not to win but we have to take the point and move on.” However, the momentum loss might prove costly for the North London side in the title race as it heats up.
Liverpool play Leeds United next on April 18 as they hope for a top-four spot by the end of the season. As for Arsenal, they travel to West Ham, hoping not to slip up and give Manchester City an advantage towards the final few games of the season.
