Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes Cristiano Ronaldo is the best Manchester United player of the contemporary age, he would not have won the Ballon d’Or five times without Wayne Rooney, according to Ibrahimovic. Rooney “did all the effort” while they were at Old Trafford, according to Ibrahimovic, who discussed the old collaboration as part of a BBC documentary about Rooney’s career.
Ibrahimovic said “When Cristiano Ronaldo played at United, Rooney did all the work but Cristiano took all the glory as he was the one who was getting the goals. Rooney ran, fought and made far more of a team sacrifice than the player from Madeira.”
Rooney has played almost every outfield position for the squad throughout his 11 years at Old Trafford, so it’s hard to contest the idea that he has had to make many positional sacrifices. Rooney developed into a master finisher at Goodison Park, and in each of his 11 seasons with Manchester United to date as he scored double digits goals.
