Roy Keane, the former Manchester United player, criticized United manager, Erik ten Hag for praising team captain, Bruno Fernandes, after United’s 3-0 win over Everton. Roy Keane, who is currently employed as a football pundit, has often come under fire for making some bold, yet controversial statements.
Erik ten Hag praised Bruno Fernandes for his sportsmanship and captaincy abilities after the player allowed Marcus Rashford to take a crucial penalty in Sunday’s match against Everton. Bruno, who is United’s regular penalty taker asked Rashford to take the spot kick, showing laudable leadership qualities. The former Red Devil, though, did not have a similar opinion about the incident.
Roy Keane criticized the Dutch manager for the ‘silly’ praise, as he feels that his players have performed well below par this season and the 6th position is proof of that. He accused the manager of ‘giving out toffees’, regarding his praises to be absolutely rubbish. Roy Keane went on to say that Manchester United needs to compete with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, in order to remain in the title race.
He's giving toffee out there to Bruno for passing on the ball for the penalty. Absolute bloody rubbish. Absolute rubbish coming out with that. Manchester United are sixth now - if you went back a few years, if you were sixth you'd be embarrassed. But obviously they seem happy with sixth.Roy Keane said on Sky Sports
Despite such harsh criticism, Erik ten Hag will breathe a sigh of relief, as his team was able to secure all three points from the game, after a horrible start to the season. United will now visit Istanbul to play Galatasaray, in a decisive Champions League encounter this week.
Manchester United make it 5 wins out of the last 6 Premier League matches
Manchester United supporters believe that the team has now returned back on track, as United defeated Everton 3-0 in last night’s Premier League match. A match that saw Garnacho’s ‘goal of the season’ contender, also saw Marcus Rashford scoring his second Premier League goal of this season.
Anthony Martial also added his name to the scoresheet in Sunday night’s victory over Everton at Goodison Park. This win was their largest margin of victory in the Premier League this season. Since the start of the season, they have only been able to win 9 games, and are on the verge of being eliminated from the Champions League group stages. So, it becomes really important for some of United’s key players to start contributing significantly to the team.
