After suffering a serious fall at Lusail Stadium during last Friday’s quarterfinal between Argentina and the Netherlands, a World Cup security guard lost his life. John Njau Kibue received immediate care in the stadium and was transferred to a local hospital, where he died on Tuesday while receiving intensive care.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Qatar Supreme Committee announced an investigation will be conducted into the events leading up to Kibue’s death. Following the death of a Filipino man in the group stage at a resort used by Saudi Arabia, Kibue is the second known migrant worker to have died since the competition started.

2 media journalists have also died notably American Grant Wahl while covering the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Al Misslam’s death was made public this past Sunday following American writer Grant Wahl, who was the first journalist to die while covering the World Cup in Qatar, a nation that has frequently come under scrutiny for its opposition to LGBTQ+ rights and other problems. La Gazzetta reports that the circumstances of the unfortunate incident are currently unknown.

This incident took place a matter of hours after Grant Wahl’s passing. US Soccer announced on Friday, December 9 that the American journalist had passed away while covering the World Cup.
