Days after appearing on screen with Spanish defender Sergio Ramos, Shakira‘s lawyer made a blatant admission involving the Sevilla player and Gerard Pique. Pau Molins, the lawyer representing Shakira in court, said that it would have cost the singer a lot less had she fallen for Sergio Ramos instead of his International teammate, Gerard Pique.
He added that Pique was the reason Shakira is facing six counts of tax fraud instead of three. It was only a few days ago that the internet witnessed Shakira linking up with the Sevilla defender. The duo met at the 2023 Latin Grammys, where Sergio Ramos handed over two of her three awards.

Surprisingly, one award was for “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.” It is a diss-track on her ex-partner, Gerard Pique. The internet reacted to the same, with many comparing it to a scene from Hollywood. As Shakira made her plea deal in court for accused tax fraud, her lawyer shed light on the same. He said that the tax laws in Spain aren’t fair for all.
It is understood that those living in Madrid and Andalusia are exempt from wealth tax. It is where Sergio Ramos happened to be during his time at Real Madrid. However, Gerard Pique and the Colombian singer were living in Catalonia, where a wealth tax has to be paid.
The story of Shakira and tax fraud
As Colombian singer Shakira and her lawyer Pau Molins made a plea deal on her tax fraud case, here is an investigation into the details of the same. The lawyer explained that it is very complicated to determine where the international artists should pay their taxes. He added that in 2011, Shakira visited 74 countries as part of her world tour, adding to the confusion.
Shakira pleaded guilty to six separate instances of tax fraud in court on Tuesday. However, she was initially ordered to serve eight years of imprisonment for her actions. Judge Manuel del Amo said that a 3-year prison sentence will be dealt to the Colombian singer. Subsequently, this was replaced by a £7 million fine, which she would have to pay.
The prosecution’s case is centered around the question of whether Shakira was a resident of Spain or the Bahamas from 2012 to 2014. Shakira claimed that she was living in the Bahamas, even though she was already in a relationship with then FC Barcelona player Gerard Pique (a resident of Catalonia) since 2010.

Moreover, both the lawyer and client admitted that they could have easily won the case but chose to pay the fine because of the different interests at hand. The case was scheduled to go on until December 20th, spanning 12 sessions.
