News broke out a few weeks ago as one of the most famous couples in the footballing world announced their separation. Gerard Pique and Shakira, who’d been together for nearly 12 years ended things after Pique was allegedly found cheating on his partner.
However, while the duo announced their separation on social media just a few weeks back, new reports suggest they had been separated for over 3 months. The Columbian singer had also asked Pique to go to couples counselling to which the Barcelona star refused.
Shakira wanted to fix things with Gerard Pique before eventual separation
It is reported by journalists that Pique’s infidelities weren’t the only reason for the break-up of the relationship. The couple enjoyed an open relationship and Shakira has consented to Gerard Pique’s love affairs with other women.
However, by January of 2022, Pique had decided that he no longer wanted to be in a relationship and separate from the Columbian star. It was then that the 45-year-old suggested couples counselling but Gerard Pique refused to be adamant about continuing his new life as a bachelor.
The Spaniard also reportedly pressured her into announcing their separation publically so that he would no longer have to hide his lifestyle anymore. The player is now dating a much younger 22-year-old girl who is a friend of the girlfriend of his Barcelona teammate, Riqui Puig.
Pique’s antics have brought in a lot of criticism on the player’s part who has two children with his former partner. However, as things seem to cool down, Pique will soon start preparing for the pre-season with Barcelona in what could be his last year at the Catalan club.
