Shakira rejects an agreement with the Prosecutors office; set to fight her €14 million tax fraud case as custody battles with FC Barcelona’s Gerard Pique continue: Reports

Shakira
Columbian singer Shakira has been accused of Tax Fraud against the government of Spain in the years 2012, 2013 and 2014. The 45-year-old has reportedly duped the government off €14 million in taxes in the 3 years mentioned above.
However, Shakira has since denied these accusations. Her latest statement read, “The Prosecutor’s Office has been determined to collect the money accrued on my international tours and in “The Voice” when I was not yet a resident in Spain, and they have resorted to improper means to pressure, just as they do daily and unfairly with thousands of profit taxpayers.”

Shakira’s lawyers inform the office that they do not intend to reach an agreement

Despite the prosecutors’ office suggesting the singer and her legal team reach an agreement and avoid a court battle, the singer’s lawyers have informed the office that they plan on fighting the case to the nail and getting justice for her.
Shakira earlier had paid €17.2 million in taxes that she was told she owed to the government of Spain earlier. And she now feels that she had no outstanding debt to the officials.
A statement from Shakira’s lawyers read, “the Prosecutor’s Office still does not show direct evidence or reasonable criteria to support its position and has maintained a completely intransigent attitude throughout the investigation, only a minimum exercise has been made to try to show her permanence for certain days, but by far from what the law requires to consider herself a resident.“
Amid all the court battles, Shakira is also fighting against her former partner, Gerard Pique for the custody of her 2 children Sasha and Milan. The Columbian plans on moving to Miami and wants to take her kids with her after alleging that their father’s actions are mentally harassing the young boys.
