Sheffield United player Maddy Cusack has tragically passed away at the young age of 27. The midfielder had recently signed a new contract with the club and was about to start her 6th year at the club. The news was confirmed less than a day ago when Sheffield United released a club statement confirming her death.

“Discussions over suitable tributes and celebrating Maddy’s life will continue privately. The Club and Maddy’s family would appreciate a period of privacy and will not comment further at this sad time,” honoring their player. She made over 100 appearances for ‘the Blades’ and was also the marketing executive of the club. Maddy also gave back to the community by being an active member of the Sheffield United Community Foundation which focuses on helping the local community through various activities and skill development.

Sue Campbell, director of women’s football at the FA paid her respects to the player. “We are all devastated to learn about the passing of Maddy Cusack. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Maddy’s family, friends, team-mates and everyone at Sheffield United,” it was stated.

Former Sheffield United player, Billy Sharp shared a photo of the two celebrating together as he mourned her passing away. Maddy’s former club Birmingham City also offered their condolences and were saddened by what has happened.

When Maddy Cusack signed a new contract with Sheffield United, the club released an interview about how she felt about the extension. “This club is my home,” she replied. The player loved the club, the club loved the player.

About Maddy Cusack

Before joining Sheffield United, Maddy Cusack played for the likes of Aston Villa, Birmingham City, and Leicester City. She joined the Blades in 2018/19 midway through the season from Leicester. At the time of passing, Maddy was the longest-serving player at Sheffield United as she made her 100th appearance for the club back in February of this year.

Maddy Cusack has been present at Sheffield United since the club’s debut season in the 2nd division of Women’s football. Since joining, the player has contributed to the team by being playing in the midfield with energy. The player has a decent number of goals and assists for the club and was even made vice-captain of the club this year. She renewed her contract with the club in the off-season and was excited to start her sixth year at the club.

Sheffield United is losing one of its best players Maddy Cusack – due to unfortunate circumstances. The player did a lot for the club off the field as much as she did on it. Maddy was a fan of the club and it showed. She would often take part in the club’s YouTube channel talking about the men’s side of football. The club is devastated to lose a person like her.
