Former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy was acquitted of all charges of rape and sexual assault on Friday. The 28-year-old French man was very emotional and broke down into tears walking out of the courtroom. The jury finally announced the verdict in his favor at the Chester Crown Court this Friday.
After intense three hours of deliberation, the court cleared Mendy of the charges which involved sexual assaults on two women at his mansion. He expressed his relief and gratitude for not being found guilty of the false accusations that were made against him.
Benjamin Mendy’s professional football career has been significantly affected by this trial which extended for months. Added to this, he was already suffering from many injuries since his joining Manchester City back in 2017 and hence missed a huge amount of playtime on the field.
Given the prolonged periods of this case, it has caused a major dent in Mendy’s career and it will be very difficult for him to regain his place at competitive football. Mostly, The future for Benjamin Mendy depends on his personal choices whether he will be working hard to gain fitness and form, and the willingness of clubs to take him in their squad.

Fans try to troll Benjamin Mendy after judgment by guessing the names of his lawyers
The support from fans and the football community demonstrates the fact that this community can stand beside individuals facing tough times and offer encouragement and navigate them through challenges.
While most of the fans showed love and support, some took over Twitter and trolled the former Manchester City defender, started making memes and gifs, and trolled the baller. Many tweets involved references from web shows like Bettercallsaul and SUITS to troll about the case.
After being acquitted by the court, Mendy’s return to football still remains ambiguous. It will also be intriguing to see if Manchester City takes its defender back ahead of next season or not.
