“Still alive”- Florentino Perez confirms Real Madrid is working on making Super League a reality
Super League
After the backlash that top European clubs faced from the fans for the European Super League in April last year, most thought that the idea was dead. However, Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez confirmed to elchiringuitotv that Super League is still alive.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Los Blancos president is still working on the competition that would see the Champions League be rendered useless and the idea of smaller clubs competing for the biggest competition crushed.
“UEFA a monopoly” – Perez defends Super League while launching attack against UEFA
While speaking about the Super League, Florentino Perez said, “Of course it is still alive, right now there is a question raised in the Luxembourg Court, there will be a hearing shortly and it will rule on the issues we have raised.”
“We believe that we have the right, within the European Community, to organise competitions between us, with UEFA. “We understand that UEFA is a monopoly and in this Europe of 27 [EU member states] a pillar is that of competition.”
Florentino Perez also said that he isn’t afraid of the Champions League banning Real Madrid as they are the competition’s most successful club. Perez later also spoke about other clubs also still being interested in the idea of the money-making competition.
Florentino Perez ended the interview talking about Kylian Mbappe and how his move to Real Madrid broke down. He said that PSG turned Mbappe into a different player by offering him more money and pressuring him to sign a new deal but concluded by saying that Real Madrid will be back for Mbappe in the future.
