Shakira broke up with Gerard Pique in June 2022 after 11 years of dating. Since then, she has rejuvenated her musical career and has released numerous songs. Most of these songs have hidden meanings to them and diss her ex-boyfriend and his current girlfriend Clara Chia Marti. A lot of these songs directly or indirectly address Pique and expose all his exploits during the relationship.

The most popular song from this phase has been the music session with Argentine producer Bizzarap. It went viral on the internet after Shakira claimed that Pique made a big mistake replacing her with his 25-year-old girlfriend as she is “worth two 25-year-olds.” Recently, she released a new song with Latin singer Manuel Turizo called Copa Vacia. Sure enough, this song also contains some details about the relationship. However, many fans might have missed it as it might have not been as evident as her previous songs.

For this, she helped them find the hints herself as she came to a private chat with her followers and sent some audio clips. She used the new feature in Instagram where the influencers can privately chat with their followers. “I love being able to communicate with you now. I want to tell you about Copa Vacía, my new song with Manuel Turizo,” she said, opening the conversation. She talked about referencing her new hobby in the music video by saying, “In the video, I’m a mermaid. Well, lately I’ve been in the water so much that I’m going to get scales.”

After having light discussions for some time, she opened up about the symbolisms in the video about Gerard Pique implying that he was a ‘rat’,  “I believe that the figure of the mermaid in this video is very symbolic. Many know that I am on the way back to myself. This character sacrifices many things for love and ends up in a garbage dump surrounded by rats. She finally manages to return to her habitat. Any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental, of course,” said the singer. It is safe to say that Shakira still hasn’t forgiven her ex for the way things ended.

Ever since her break up with Pique, Shakira has been busy with her music. In many of these, she has openly dissed her former boyfriend and referenced his current relationship with Clara Chia Marti.

While many fans of hers praised her for this move, she has also earned some criticism due to this. One of them is a panelist on the show ‘El programa de Ana Rosa’. The host of the show said, “After everything we’ve said about this break-up, we’ll be looking for elements of her songs that have to do with autobiography for another 100 years.”

To this, the panelist Alessandro Lequio concluded by quoting, “What I see is a neglected woman begging for a little bit of love. I agree with you, heartbreak is behind the best songs and the best plays. But a real professional doesn’t have to experience things and then tell the story. A real professional uses imagination. The subject is already a bit exhausting. She has begun to look a little ridiculous.”
