Tensions escalate between Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at PSG after ‘Penaltygate-II’ saga

The situation at the PSG dressing room is not looking good after the penalty incident.

It has just been two weeks since the start of the new season and things are already looking worse for PSG star-duo Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Last week, PSG faced Montpellier and on the course of the 21-min mark, PSG received a penalty after Jordan Ferri was caught handling the ball.

Mbappe stepped up to take it considering him being their regular PK taker. He missed the penalty but all thanks to the Sacko own goal in the 39th minute, PSG was 1-0 up.

Before the season kicked off, new manager Christophe Galtier made it clear that Kylian Mbappe is going to be their prime penalty taker and Neymar is going to be the second choice which indicates Neymar would only step up for the penalty if his teammate is not playing or if he is not on the pitch anymore.

After just a minute after the goal, PSG received a second penalty and Neymar stepped up to take it which created a controversy with Mbappe who wanted to take it this time as well. Neymar paid absolutely no attention to the words of his teammate and converted the penalty which was a surprise to everyone on the pitch.

Due to Neymar‘s behavior, the environment and the conditions weren’t looking safe despite PSG putting up a great performance and winning the match by 5 goals to 2. It was clear to the eyes of all the fans and players present in the stadium that Mbappe wasn’t happy and his face showed it as he stayed grumpy throughout the game after the “Penaltygate-II” incident.

ESPN FC pundits have stated that Kylian Mbappe was in no mood to entertain Neymar’s arrogance on how he stepped up to take the penalty even before consulting with each other. Things are not at all looking good at PSG as Neymar was found liking a few tweets from some fans that criticized the choice of Mbappe being the prime penalty taker.

Back in the 2017-18 season, the “Penaltygate-I” situation that arose between Edinson Cavani and Neymar had also put severe pressure on the PSG dressing room and then-manager Unai Emery failed to solve the problem as well. Although this time things have taken a different toll after Sergio Ramos had a word with both players immediately after the game in the dressing room and tried to calm down the situation between the duo.
