“That wasn’t human error,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta lashes out at VAR for Premier League draw against Brentford
Arsenal face Manchester City in their upcoming Premier League clash on Wednesday.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta slammed VAR official after huge error.
Arsenal was held to a 1-1 draw against Brentford on Saturday in the Premier League, however, the equalizing goal scored by Ivan Toney should have been disallowed. Brentford player Christian Nørgaard was clearly offside during the build-up, which led to the goal in the 74th minute. Mikel Arteta accused VAR official Lee Mason, for an ‘unacceptable’ mistake. The critical mistake cost Arsenal two very important points. Second-placed Manchester City closed the gap to three points on league leaders Arsenal.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) gave a formal apology to Arsenal, stating the VAR mistake as “human error.” Arteta, however was not satisfied with the apology. “We ended the game after analyzing all the evidence that we’ve had with the images with a huge anger and disappointment because that wasn’t a human error, that was a big not conceiving and understanding your job and that’s not acceptable, I’m sorry”. Mason, who made the error, was suspended from this week’s Premier League matches.
He further expressed his dissatisfaction, stating, “I will only be satisfied if they give me the two points back, which is not going to be the case. I appreciate what I think were really sincere, open and genuine apologies and explanation. But it doesn’t change the fact we have two points less.” Arsenal will go ahead with just a three-point lead against Manchester City, who have played one more game. Mikel Arteta will face his mentor and City boss Pep Guardiola in their upcoming Premier League match on February 15.
The Premier League has put out a tweet on Wednesday saying that the PGMOL have reviewed the instances in which VAR failed to keep up with its high standards. Earlier today, the management body updated, “Following discussions with PGMOL, and yesterday’s Select Group One review meeting, we support PGMOL’s views on addressing these issues to improve performances going forward”.

Arsenal goes head-to-head with City at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
Wenger stated his confidence in Arsenal, who have a great chance to win the English Premier League after 19 years. In an interview with beIN Sport, he said, “I agree the conditions next season won’t be as favorable as they are now so lets not miss this opportunity. Arsenal has 51 points after 21 games which is remarkable. You win it when you can win it and you don’t care too much about the rest you take the title and let the rest talk about it.“
“I feel the usual threats are all out of the race. The only threat is City and even City is no not as dominant as they were two years before. I feel since the start of the season City was more vulnerable defensively than before.” The French legend managed Arsenal from 1996 to 2018, in a record 823 matches. He won 7 FA Cups and led the famous Arsenal Invincible Team in 2003/04 season, where the team was undefeated for 49 games.
