Gianni Infantino
Gianni Infantino has praised the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as being the most impressive yet, noting the exciting matches that have taken place, the high attendance and viewership numbers, and the FIFA Fan Festival in Doha being a hit with fans from all over the globe. As the tournament has reached the quarter-finals, the FIFA President has lauded the high level of play from the 32 teams that took part in the group stage and the fans’ enthusiasm in the stands.
Infantino has worked to build relationships between football governing bodies to boost international competition. In 2022, it was unprecedented to witness teams from all continents competing in the round of 16. The participation of three countries from the Asian Football Confederation and two from the Confederation of African Football made the tournament even more remarkable. President Infantino believes these developments indicate a promising future for the global game.
“I have seen all the matches, indeed, and put very simply and very clearly, this has been the best group stage of a FIFA World Cup ever. So, it’s very promising for the remainder of the FIFA World Cup,” the FIFA President stated. He also said “The matches have been of great, great quality in beautiful stadiums – we knew that already. However, as well, the public who was there was incredible. Over 51,000 on average.”

FIFA World Cup Quarterfinal schedules are set after an entertaining Round of 16

The outcome of the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarterfinals was decided on Tuesday, December 6, when Portugal triumphed over Switzerland 6-1 in the final Round of 16 games at Lusail Stadium. As a result of their victory, Portugal will compete against Morocco in the semi-finals on Saturday, December 10, at Al Thumama Stadium. Morocco earned their place in the quarterfinals after defeating Spain 3-0 on penalties, having already come out on top against Canada and Belgium in the Group stage.
On December 9, Croatia and Brazil will kick off the quarterfinals at the Education Stadium. Brazil is hoping to make history by claiming their sixth World Cup title, having secured a 4-1 victory over South Korea. This would be an impressive win since their last championship title came in 2002 when the tournament was held in an Asian country.
The second quarterfinal match on Friday will feature Netherlands and Argentina at the Lusail Stadium. England and France will face off in the last four quarter-final games on the 11th of December at Al Bayt Stadium. Both countries had the best records in the group stage, making them the top-ranking teams going into the match.
