“They did their best”- Barcelona President refuses to blame players after Champions League exit

Barcelona President Joan Laporta was proud of his players even after crashing out of the UEFA Champions League and also said that they gave their very best. He said, “Now we have to look forward, we still have La Liga and other competitions. We knew that in this reconstruction period, there would be ups and downs. We have to keep growing every day.”

He added, “Bayern Munich is a consolidated and powerful team, one of the best in Europe. Furthermore, nothing was at stake and they could play relaxed and risk up to a limit. For us, it was complicated. We watched the Inter game together and it was torture. There was no miracle, but we continued with faith and with the desire to progress more and more.”

Barcelona will now fight for the UEFA Europa League and will expect to win the trophy this time after crashing out of the competition last year in the quarter-finals to eventual champions Eintracht Frankfurt. They will be facing tough competition from record competition winners, Sevilla, Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid who also failed to move onto the later stages of the UCL.

How did Xavi protect and back his players after the loss against Bayern Munich last night?

After the loss, Xavi said in an interview, “We have to face the reality. I already said that we have to grow little by little and today there were good things. Today we did not compete on their level. In Munich, we were better but today we didn’t compete. Today Bayern was better. Just as we were better in Munich and we should have won, today they were better.”

He added, “The group was very complicated and everything happened to us in the Champions League. We must continue to believe in ourselves.” Barcelona is currently placed second in the LaLiga and Xavi will be adamant about giving it back to their fans by focusing solely on getting the league title back after failing to do so in the last three years.
