“They’ve gotten old”- Football pundit blasts off at Liverpool after the defeat against Leeds United
Tim Howard at the Goodison Park.
Liverpool was the only team last season to have played every possible match an English club could have played and also won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. They were close to winning the Premier League in a dramatic last-day finish but Gundogan’s brace in the last 15 mins gave Manchester City their third title in three years. They were also the runner-up in the Champions League losing 1-0 to Real Madrid.
But this season, things have gone all wrong for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they have just won 4 matches in the 12 matches they have played in the Premier League. With Klopp already ruled out the possibility of their title race last week after their defeat against Nottingham Forest, things went from bad to worse as Liverpool lost to Leeds United which marked their first home defeat in nearly 19 months.
Rodrigo gave the visitors an early lead but Mohammed Salah equalized for the home side just moments after that. Liverpool missed a lot of chances and couldn’t convert their opportunities and in the later stages of the match, youngster Crysencio Summerville won it for the visitors and the match ended 2-1 with a disappointing defeat at Anfield.
What did Tim Howard say about the major problem in Jurgen Klopp’s side?
Everton legend Tim Howard claimed that this is going to be an ordinary season for the Reds and, “I feel like their season is just going to be blah. Their midfield needs revamping. They’ve gotten old and there are not enough legs in there for the way Jurgen Klopp wants to press. It’s just going to be an average season.”
He pointed out that the weakest area of Liverpool this season is their midfield and that its needs to be built right from the scratch yet again. With star players like Thiago, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and James Milner unable to provide the goods and without a proper striker to slot in the chances, Liverpool is really suffering in the final third of the pitch.
