Police prevented a violent break-in at the home of newly signed Juventus player Angel Di Maria. The former Paris Saint-Germain player, who was targeted by burglars when playing for Manchester United and at Old Trafford, was reportedly resting with his family and a teammate when the incident took place.

After an alarm went off and police rushed to the location after being informed by a private security company, one of the three criminals was apprehended. The other two perpetrators are allegedly being sought after by detectives.

The attempted break-in happened on Thursday around 7.30 p.m. in the same Turin neighbourhood where Cristiano Ronaldo and his family resided while he was a player for Juventus, according to the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Unverified reports said a gun had been discovered close to the location and that neighbours had heard bullets. Di Maria has yet to post anything on social media about his hat-trick of assists in his team’s 3-1 Champions League victory over Maccabi Haifa on Wednesday.

In March 2015, the Argentinean man of 34 years listed his £4.1 million Prestbury property for sale, a month after trespassers attempted to break into the opulent home while he was having dinner there with his wife Jorgelina Cardoso and daughters Mia and Pia.

After the attempted break-in, which took place less than a year after Di Maria joined Manchester United for a British transfer record sum of £59.7 million, they moved to an opulent hotel. He was replaced during a PSG game in March of last year when it was discovered that his home had been broken into while he and his family were inside.

Following the raid, which saw the attackers purportedly escape with more than £400,000 in jewellery and watches from a safe, three men and a kid were detained. Despite initial allegations that Jorgelina and their two daughters had been abducted, it was later determined that they were indeed inside the home but had not been aware of the break-in until afterwards or had any contact with the thieves.

The player who is rumoured to have been at Di Maria’s villa at the time of the attempted break-in is Dusan Vlahovic, who scored one of Juventus’ three goals on Wednesday. The Argentine, who had a miserable season at United, is now just four assists behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has the most assists in Champions League history with 42 and has assisted on more goals than Lionel Messi.
