Lampard was appointed as interim manager after Graham Potter was sacked

Frank Lampard had been Chelsea‘s manager for a year and a half between 2019 and 2021. He has been signed as the interim manager until the end of the current season hoping to secure a decent end to what has been a torrid season for the London-based club. Interestingly, late-night television presenter James Corden had a part to play in Lampard’s appointment.

Corden reportedly suggested the idea of bringing back Lampard to Chelsea to club owner Todd Boehly after the two became close friends. The presenter is a West Ham United fan and his idea was acted upon by the Chelsea executives. Lampard and Corden are also friends with each other as they were on the show ‘A League Of Their Own‘.

Lampard was appointed following Graham Potter’s sacking. The latter was relieved of his duties after the Blues lost 2-0 to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

After a below par start to the season under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter was appointed from Brighton Hove Albion to be the head coach after the German’s departure. Great things were expected of the Englishman as they hunted silverware after missing out on winning any last season. However, that was not the case.

Chelsea currently sit 11th on the Premier League table. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup at the hands of Manchester City. Interestingly, City striker Erling Haaland has scored more league goals than the entirety of Chelsea’s squad this season.

Who is James Corden?
