“Don’t tell me we are out because we have less quality than Japan,” Toni Kroos disappointed with Germany’s early exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Germany were eliminated in the group stages of the FIFA World Cup for the second consecutive time in a row. The 2014 World Champions, Die Mannschaft, failed to defend their champion title in the opening round of the World Cup in Russia and this time in Qatar, they suffered the same fate once more. Germany were placed in Group E with Japan, Costa Rica, and Spain.
In their first encounter, Germany unexpectedly lost to the Asian nation, and in their second game, they drew with their European rivals. Germany did not advance to the next round of the competition despite defeating Costa Rica in the last group game.
Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos responded to Germany’s shocking loss from the 2022 World Cup, claiming that it was not due to a lack of quality in Hansi Flick’s team. Kroos said the following when working as a pundit for Magenta TV: “Group stage knock out twice in a row shouldn’t happen to us. It’s obviously not a problem of quality in my opinion, but a level of familiarity, resilience, and automatisms.”
Toni Kross emphasized Germany had ‘more quality’ than their 2022 FIFA World Cup opponent Japan
After Germany’s elimination from the UEFA Euro 2020, the 32-year-old announced his retirement from international games last year. He believed that the squad ought to have advanced past the group stage. “With our team, we should definitely be advancing then if we get eliminated by Brazil in QF, we can say, ‘okay, Brazil had maybe eight world-class players, we only had four’ but don’t tell me we are out because we have less quality than Japan,” he said.
Antonio Rudiger, a teammate of Kroos from Real Madrid, was mentioned as one of the leaders and strong characters in the Germany locker room. “We have leaders and players who are loud on the pitch. Kimmich is sometimes almost too loud. The same goes for Rüdiger, Manu, and Thomas with their hunger, mentality & quality, they have what it takes to lead the team,” he pointed out.
