Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos recently criticized Real Madrid’s kit in his podcast, “Einfach mal Luppen.” He called it “uncomfortable and ugly.” He was particularly bothered by the collars on the shirt, saying that “A polo is not a football shirt.”

“We have a collar [on the shirt] again this season. A polo is not a football shirt. To all the designers: this is a big sh*t! Kits with a collar are not good, they are uncomfortable and ugly,” Kroos said. The German star has been at Real Madrid since the 2014/15 season, making 261 appearances in La Liga.

Real Madrid has been hugely successful on the pitch regardless of their kits. They won La Liga as well as the UEFA Champions League in 2016-17, with a polo shirt. They defended their Champions League title the following season, with a collarless shirt. Los Blancos have won 35 La Ligas and 14 Champions Leagues, along with 19 Copa del Rey’s and 5 Club World Cups. They are the most successful club in Spain, with a total of 100 trophies to their name.

Reports suggest Toni Kroos is considering retirement, with his contract expiring at the end of the season. Kroos spoke about the matter in his podcast, which he shares with his brother, Felix. “I will retire here,” Toni said during the chat, before adding, “the thing is that I still don’t know when it will be.”

Fully aware that his future is keeping all Real Madrid fans in suspense, the former Bayern Munich player stressed that he does not feel “any kind of pressure” from Real Madrid and that the matter has yet to be decided upon. “As of today there is no final decision on my part,” he explained, without revealing whether the scale is currently weighted towards the end of his career or renewal with the club.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti remains confident about Kroos staying. During a recent press conference, when asked about Kroos’ future, he said, “I know what is going to happen, but I’m not going to say it, because I’m not Kroos. In fact, he hasn’t told me, but the feeling I have is positive, that he can renew.” Fans believe Kroos still has a lot to offer, but as always – Kroos is in control. There may be some twists yet to come.
