Tottenham rubs salt on already wounded Three Lions fans with accidental ‘England FIFA World Cup Semifinal’ e-mail

Harry Kane and England fans

If you didn’t manage to catch Saturday night’s match, England have been knocked out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals. Despite 23 million people tuning in to watch the game, Tottenham Hotspur‘s marketing staff seemed unaware and sent out emails the following day inviting fans to come to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch England’s semi-final.

The automated misstep was an ironic mistake, as Spurs striker Harry Kane failed to make the most of a chance to tie the scoreline in the dying moments of the match at the Al Bayt Stadium. In an email with the title ‘A world class venue for World Cup screenings’, it then invites supporters to watch England in the World Cup Semi Final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The White Hart Lane had been the venue for a variety of events such as boxing matches and live music shows, which made everyone eagerly anticipate the opportunity to host a celebration for England’s second successive semi-final berth.

England is eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2022

Harry Kane

England was sadly eliminated from the World Cup after a 2-1 loss to France, the defending champions. Aurelien Tchouameni scored a magnificent goal from 25 yards out, which Jordan Pickford could not save. However, the opening goal was marred by controversy, as England felt a foul should have been called after a challenge on Bukayo Saka before the goal.

England was given a great chance to even the scoreline seven minutes after halftime when Saka was tackled inside the penalty area. Harry Kane confidently put the ball past Hugo Lloris to keep England in the fight. Despite France taking the lead again later, England had the most possessions and chances.

Olivier Giroud made it 2-1 with a powerful header to the near post in the 78th minute. Harry Kane had the opportunity to preserve England’s aspirations for success once again. However, he severely misfired a penalty kick in the closing moments, leading to another disappointing loss in the quarter-finals.
