On 19th February, Besiktas JK released academy graduate Emirhan Delibas from the club. His contract was terminated and in a statement, the club’s separation was mutual and wished him for the future. 

Just some time after the statement was released, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the reason he was sacked was because he was on the popular dating site, Bumble. The club found the 21-year-old’s profile, in which he was seen holding a mug in a toilet while wearing a Besiktas training kit as well.

In his description, it was stated that football was an interest, while his Instagram handle was also mentioned in the description. His age was also stated wrong, as Delibas is 21, but the profile said his age was 24.

The footballer later went on Instagram, putting his statement out regarding the Bumble account. On his Instagram story, he claimed the Bumble account was fake, and his loyalty to the team could not be questioned. He further claimed Besiktas was a responsibility to him, with the club’s love and support being his greatest motivation. 

I wanted to communicate with you directly about the unfounded rumors that have been circulating lately. I reject slanders made by fake accounts and would like to state that my loyalty to my team cannot be questioned. Besiktas is a responsibility for me. Your love and supports has been my greatest motivation.

Delibas has had only two appearances for Besiktas, with 14 minutes of game time. The winger has risen through the ranks of the Besiktas Academy but got his first-team debut at Goztepe while on loan in October 2022. 

Fans react to harsh contract termination 

Many fans were left surprised at Emirhan Delibas being released over a dating profile, claiming it was very harsh. Some found the account suspicious, with the account stating he was 24 while he was 21. They found it unfair, with many asking what was wrong with him keeping a dating profile.

Delibas joined the Besiktas Academy in 2010 as a 7-year-old. He went viral in 2015 after scoring a solo goal against Sporting Lisbon. He made his Besiktas debut in a Europa Conference match against FC Lugano, spending five minutes on the pitch. Delibas made his 2nd appearance against Kasimpasa in the Super Lig, playing nine minutes in the midfield. Since then he has not featured in a single game.
