USA and Netherlands women play out a draw in the FIFA 2023 World Cup
The closely fought battle at the 2023 Women’s World Cup between the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) and the Netherlands ended in a 1-1 draw. This match, a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final, was highly anticipated as both teams were determined to secure a win. However, the teams left it all out on the pitch for a draw.
Jill Roord of the Netherlands scored first in the 17th minute, but Lindsey Horan of the USWNT tied it up in the 62nd minute. The game was intense and both sides had opportunities to score. This draw means that the USWNT remains undefeated in the World Cup for 19 matches. Giving them the longest unbeaten streak in tournament history for both the men’s and the women’s editions.
In their next match on Tuesday, the team will look to continue their streak as they face Portugal. Likewise, the Netherlands will be seeking a victory in their upcoming match against Vietnam. Qualifying for the knockout stages is the priority for both the Netherlands and the USA as they look to continue their World Cup journey.
