“Very difficult to reject an offer from one of the great clubs in history” – Barcelona’s Pedri reveals he wouldn’t have hesitated to join Real Madrid if he had an offer

With the probable exception of Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona midfielder Pedri is currently Barcelona’s main man and arguably their finest player. Although he joined the Blaugrana after a trial with Real Madrid, it has been widely reported in Spain that Los Blancos did not make an offer to sign him.

Pedri has commented on that Real Madrid trial numerous times, but only as a result of repeatedly being questioned about it by the press. This has led to the development of something of a false narrative in Spain. Pedri was interviewed for the most recent version of this in El Pais.

When asked if he would have joined for Real Madrid if they had given him a contract following his trial, “I think so. My ambition was to make my way as a professional footballer and it would have been very difficult to reject an offer from one of the great clubs in the history of this sport.” he said as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

It sounds like a reasonable response, as young players frequently sign with teams that compete with the club they support in football. Jamie Carragher is renowned for being an Everton supporter despite spending his entire career at Liverpool.

However, Pedri appeared to be really happy with how things turned out. “That train passed and two years later I ended up signing for the team of my dreams. That of my family and that of my first football idol, Andres Iniesta. I’ve always said it, I’ve been a Barça player since I was a child.”

There are similarities between the two since they both wear the number 8. Iniesta was once referred to as “The Solutions Man” by Spanish football writer Graham Hunter in his book on Barcelona’s team under Pep Guardiola, and Pedri is typically the player the current squad turns to for solutions.
