Following the recent ‘Terrorist’ attacks which saw two Swedish fans lose their lives and a third surviving with injuries, Swedish International, Victor Lindelof’s wife, Maja Nilsson shared a heartfelt story on her Instagram wishing for her husband to return home safely.
Victor Lindelof was present in Brussels, Belgium during the incident owing to International obligations for Sweden’s Euro Qualifier against Belgium. The match was played up to half-time before its cancellation with UEFA releasing a statement, “After consultation with the two teams and the local police authorities, that the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden is abandoned.” Fans and players were kept at the stadium till the early hours for safety purposes until the situation was ‘under control’.
Lindelof would later release a personal statement on his Instagram, following the events that took place stating, “I’m shocked and devastated by the terrible incidents in Brussels with the cold-hearted attacks on our fellow Swedes…no one should ever go to a game of football and feel unsafe when supporting their team.” The news of the attack also evoked emotional reactions from his wife, Maja Nilsson who was worried about her husband’s safety sharing two photos of the player and writing the caption, “I just want you home now,” followed by her paying respects to those affected by the attacks.
With the culprit of the incident already shot dead by local policemen, UEFA have come under huge fire for allowing the match to continue under these circumstances resorting to cancelling the game only after initiatives were taken by the players of both nations.

Victor Lindelof will not appear for the UEFA Euro 2024
Sitting in 3rd place in Group F of the UEFA Euro Qualifiers, Sweden has already lost their chance of qualifying. Austria’s win in Baku and Belgium’s early qualification has sealed the two, as the top teams from the group, securing their spot in the UEFA Euro 2024.
This marks the first UEFA European Championship which, Manchester United defender, Victor Lindelof will miss in his International Career. Since his debut in 2016, the Swedish International has appeared in all possible International Competitions in which Sweden can take part. However, failure to qualify for the Euro 2024 has put an end to his streak of consecutive competitions. Victor Lindelof will be 33 by Euro 2028, by which many expect the player to no longer be available for selection.
Sweden’s failure to qualify also means Swedish National Team coach, Janne Andersson is expected to be ‘sacked’ after Fredrik Reinfeldt, chairman of the Swedish FA, confirmed failure to qualify will end the coach’s reign.
