“Taken out a manager who was overachieving,” Vincent Kompany slams Crystal Palace for sacking Patrick Vieira

Vincent Kompany recently responded to the sacking of Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira. The Frenchman was sacked from The Eagles before their game against Arsenal as the board had seemingly lost faith in him for being too soft.

Speaking about the sacking, Kompany stated: “I think if you’re overachieving, which is what they(Crystal Palace) are doing, then I think whoever’s making the decision has got to come forward say that I made the decision because at the end of the season, we are going to be safe because of that decision. But actually. what you’ve done is taken out a manager who’s overachieving, no matter which way you wanna turn it. And that side of it, I think is a problem in general in football.”

Vieira was sacked after Palace’s winless run of 12 games since the start of the year. The results see Crystal Palace drop out of the top half of the table into 12th. One of the losses included a 2-1 loss to Southampton in the FA Cup which saw The Eagles crash out of the cup competition.

With Patrick Vieira’s sacking, Crystal Palace are back in the market to search for a new manager. With 11 games left in the season, Palace will be hoping the new boss will steer The Eagles away from relegation as only five points separate 12th place and 20th place in the Premier League table.

As multiple managers have been sacked this season, Crystal Palace has a wide range of men to select from. The managers sacked from the PL this season include Jesse Marsch, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker.

Roy Hodgson is considered to be the favorite to be appointed as the head coach. However, other options also include Steven Gerrard, Ralph Hasenhuttl, Nuno Espirito Santos and Rafa Benitez.
