WATCH: “$229 billion but no cleaning service,” Twitter reacts as Japanese fans clean the stadium after Qatar v Ecuador FIFA World Cup clash
FIFA World Cup
Japan exited the 2018 FIFA World Cup four years ago after falling to Belgium in the round of 16. Despite being devastated by the defeat, their supporters exhibited class by picking up trash that other supporters had left behind in the stands.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is taking place in Qatar, and Japanese football supporters are once again emphasizing cleaning. After the tournament’s opening match between Qatar and Ecuador, they astounded football fans around the world by sweeping all the trash from the Al Bayt stadium.
Locals were taken aback by the gesture considering Japan wasn’t even participating in the opening day. The supporters picked up plastic bottles, paper cups, and food packages as they moved from row to row while wearing the colors of their country. Omar Al-Farooq, a Bahraini influencer, recorded the kind deed on his phone and posted it to Instagram.
