On Monday, Paris Saint-Germain held its first preseason training session of the season, which included players who had not joined their respective international teams over the past month.
Lionel Messi was among the PSG players who took part in international fixtures following the end of the 2021-2022 season, as he played in Argentina’s 2022 Finalissima match against Italy and a friendly against Estonia. Messi was expected to make his first preseason training appearance of the year on July 11, according to RMC Sport.
Messi underwent medical tests and participated in light training with the rest of his PSG teammates. During one such drill, Messi was hugged by Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from behind displaying his affection for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner. Messi was unaware of who was the player or club member as he was more focused on his routine cycling.
Messi’s reaction was somewhat amusing to the observer, but that could be one of Donnarumma’s pre-workout routines unknown to the netizens. Messi and Donnarumma recently faced each other when both their national teams faced off in the first-ever Finalissima which will be held between the winner of the Euros and Copa America.
Messi’s team ran riot against uninspiring Italy in which Donnarumma had to take the ball back of the net three times and Argentina were crowned the first-ever CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions winners.

It was not his best season, but after 20 years in Barcelona, he was coming to a new country, a new city, a new league, a new team, and a new culture. And also his family, he had Covid… It was not easy. Next season we will see the best Messi in history. And after the first year, he is already a bargain financially.”
